Disturbia 2007

Disturbia is basically a teen Disney movie of the remake of the classic, Rear Window. I was looking forward to it, but it just did not live up (not even close) to Hitchcock's Rear Window. Not the same dread or suspense at all.

Too bad, a modern take on this might have been interesting, if it worked in any way.

Black Christmas Remake-2006

Now the orginal of this movie sticks in my mind as it's probably the first in this category (When A Stranger Calls et al) that first freaked me out. The crank phone calls in the orginal are paricularly disturbing. Not the best movie ever made, but it had some intriguing elements, and I particularly prefer this movie over When A Stranger Calls, as the orginal Black Christmas. The orginal movie left the "origins" and "background" of our resident psycho quite a mystery.

Now I understand how this works, and actually do appreciate it in some movies, and probably including the orginal Black Christmas. As I have mentioned previously though, I like to be "fed" the info when on my entertainment time. I don't like to think too much about it, and get as much of the story as possible. Now the remake of When A Stranger Calls left the mystery intact, and I think that did work in the remake. In fact, I like the remake more than the orginal. I think of the When A Stranger Calls remake as a completely seperate movie really. Better.

The two main things that are different between the orginal Black Christmas and the remake of Black Christmas is 1) we loose much of the creepiness of the "prank" calls (big mistake in my opinion) but 2) we gain a pretty creepy laid out story of the origins of our resident psycho (the story line was creepy and interesting enough to make this work).

I am not going to say this is a must see or anything (to anyone else but me to whom these things are an obsession), but it is an interesting move. As usual, I found the stabbed eyeballs et al the most uninteresting part of the movie, but it is of that genre so I guess you can't leave that out.

The Wicker Man Remake-2006

I am NOT a fan of remakes. However, I did enjoy this more than the orginal classic horror film, The Wicker Man!! Course I haven't seen that film in awhile, so I will need to review it to be sure. The remake of The Wicker Man is well worth seeing.

I am not a girl that wants a question half answered. Very rarely can I appreciate a film that wants me to use my imagination or fill in the gaps myself. It's not that I don't have a fruitful imagination, because I do. It's just that movie or tv time is the time for me to totally let go, and just enjoy. I want to be entertained, I want everything answered.

Unlike the orginal, this movie does pretty much spell it out for you. Oh, it keeps you in suspense, don't worry. It's a very disturbing movie, and reminded me of a book that I had read about a modern day town that was really populated by Amazon women. You might note the similarity if you see this movie (and now I am going to have to figure out the title of that book LOL.

God lord, just tried to search for this book and can't find it. Woman moves to nice town. At first everything seems fine. Then she notices men are often quite, meek, in wheelchairs, and kept out of sight for the most part. Ceremonies ensue!! Ancient amazon ghosts reside in these modern women. Anyone know the name of the book that I am talking about. It's stepford wives in reverse, and a bit more edgy:)

Black Christmas Remake

I just watched the orginal Black Christmas. I always get this confused with When A Stranger Calls, which I don't like. I much prefer Black Christmas as a more "thought provoking" horror film <G>. Looks like the remake is going to answer some questions that were not answered in the orginal. It's not out yet, but I am wondering if I will prefer that. In the meantime, some film for you.
